Adden Lab Tsetse sensory ecology and neuroethology of viviparity

Lilah is an MSci student, whose research centres on the factors that drive insects to behave the way they do. Building on the lab’s finding that a tsetse odorant receptor responds to tree odours, her current project explores whether those responses vary with sex and reproductive status. These questions matter as tree odours may guide tsetse flies to resting, birthing or hunting sites, which could make them useful to improve traps that help control these disease vectors. Beyond the lab, she is fascinated by the overlap between animal and human behaviour, and by what insects can reveal about behaviours we often assume are uniquely human.
